New Art in Summer Colour theme
New Art in Summer Colour Themes…
These new prints are now available from my Etsy shop, I am making more art in summer colour themes lately. I think it’s the change in seasons and feeling more comfortable with experimenting with colours and different, unexpected colour pallets. The colour inspiration for these, however, came from a walk me and my boyfriend did in Iceland. So basically, I drove from Reykjavik around the Golden Circle, got a tiny plane to Akureyri and drove to Lake Myvatn, Seyðisfjörður and got the tiny plane back…phew!
Finding Colours in the Late Summer of Iceland
I needed loads of breaks while driving because something to do with the height of the roads off the ground, and the open space of it all was setting my dyspraxia right off! During these breaks we walked for miles, eating blueberries and watching swans fly and letting our ears pop in the silence. Because there isn’t really any greenery in Iceland, the floor is super soft and thick with moss in all sorts of colours. Earthy greens, reds and browns laced with mint green strands of grass scatter everywhere, it looks so unusual.
I’ve tried to take some of this inspiration into my prints, experimenting with layering warm toned colours next to cool tones for a more striking, and still “ugly” effect which fits with making my art in summer colour theme. I love the way in the pictures I took, the sky has this cold blue-grey look along the snow capped mountains and the floor is hot and warm with September sun, red moss and minty dead grass… so picturesque and stunning! One of the things that I thought was mad about walking through rural Iceland was the “alone-ness” you feel. I reckon in the photo with the horses, we were probably the only people in the vicinity for miles!
If you’ve been anywhere that has really inspired your art, I would love to hear about it in the comments below…
